TEST PILOT BATES GIVES THUMBS-UP

LEICESTER racer Josh Bates has given the thumbs-up to the new GTR engine – after using it in their Championship Shield win over Berwick.

Bates was a test pilot for the mark two version of the engine with the British Speedway Promoters’ Association keen to chart the progress.
He notched 9+1 for the Watling JCB Lions and was pleased with the outcome.
“I enjoyed riding it,” he said. “It was easy to ride and I felt very comfortable.
“I would like to thank the BSPA for giving me this opportunity to try it and would be happy to continue with the project.
“It’s nice to be back from injury, feeling better and in the points. Now I need it to continue in all my meetings.”
Belle Vue’s 15-year-old sensation Jordan Palin started the season on the GTR and his form has been stunning.
Leicester are riding high in both divisions right now – top of the Championship and also the National League after the Cubs’ win at Cradley on Monday.
The Watling JCB Lions head to Somerset tonight (Wednesday) in the Championship and then go to Berwick on Saturday for the deciding leg of their Shield semi-final.
They head to Peterborough on Sunday for the Championship Fours (2pm) – a meeting which features 34 heats.
